Carson had a great basketball season. Something really turned for him. Carson began to really become aware of the court and his surroundings. He was often the lead scorer on his team, and began to excel at defense, blocking shots and defending his opponent. We talked to Carson a lot about teamwork, sharing the ball, etc. He was definitely a standout this season. He was one of the older ones in his age bracket and of course, the tallest on the court. I was often very proud of him and his emerging basketball skills, but my proudest moment came during the last game. There was a kid on the other team that had not scored all season. The opposing coach asked Carson to take it easy on him so that maybe he could make a basket. All of a sudden I look up and Carson is encouraging the other team to pass the ball to number 5. He totally opened up the lane and made it easy for the little boy to get very close to the basket for a shot. Although #5 didn't score, I am so proud of Carson for trying to give him the opportunity. In another instance, there was a little boy on our team that hadn't scored much. Near the end of the game, Carson passed the ball to Grayson under the basket and he scored! I am so proud of Carson for excelling at basketball this season, but also for being a great team player and understanding what it means to be a good sport.
