With all the basketball and growing that Carson has been doing, his feet have really been bothering him. Carson is flat footed like Jason. He has no arch at all. After a tournament where he plays 3 games or a long hard practice, his feet are in quite a bit of pain. I took him to a orthopedic surgeon for advice and he said that Carson could benefit from surgery. Basically they would remove an extra bone he has in his foot, add a cadaver bone on the outside of his foot, and lengthen his Achilles. The surgery would put him in a cast for 3 months on each foot. This would mean 6 months to a year out of sports. So, after much thought and consideration we decided to wait on the surgery, but try physical therapy first. We took him to 8 weeks of physical therapy and had custom orthotics made. So far it seems to be working! His feet are in much less pain. Hopefully we can avoid surgery by doing things like PT or Arriosti. We will take it one day at a time, nurse those feet, and do what we can to make sure he can still play basketball with little to no pain!
