These Are The Days!

Time flies when you are having fun! I worry everyday that I will forget the precious moments that I share with my family, so I have decided that I need to do a better job capturing those memories. My sweet babies are growing so fast and I not only want to remember them as babies, but watch them grow into the amazing people they are!

Weigh In

This is a day I will not forget for a long time.  You see, the boys have to weigh in for tackle football.  The limit for K-2 age division is 75 pounds to carry the ball.  What this means is that if you weigh more than 75 pounds you cannot be a skill player - quarterback, running back, wide receiver.  The bigger kids must play on the line or any defensive position.  Going into the summer, Cade was weighing about 79-80 pounds.  We knew that he would likely be one of the biggest kids on the team and would find his spot on the line somewhere.  Cade, however, is very athletic and wanted very badly to have the ball in his hands.  The coaches thought he would be a threat if he could run the ball too.  Well, since is he was about 5 pounds over the weight limit, we pretty much conceded that thought and Cade had come to terms with what his role would be.

However, after a month and a half of conditioning, Cade had begun to trip down.  It was weigh in day.  The coaches asked that we dress him as light as possible, just in case he might come close to 75 pounds.  We wanted no heavy clothes or shoes...just in case.  Much to our surprise, Cade stepped on the scale and weighed in at 77 pounds.  Hmm..the coaches started to get excited about the potential. All we had to do was find a way to shed 2 pounds.  First he took his shirt off, nope.  Second, he went to the bathroom, nope.  Finally, the coach said...are you okay with him taking all his clothes off.  We think we can get him to 75 pounds and Cade would be able to run the ball!  Ugh.  My baby.  He is 7 years old.  Is this over the top?  Ok. Whatever.  Poor thing stripped to his undies.  76.0  All we needed was 0.1 tenth of a pound.  It just wasn't meant to be.  It's okay though, everything happens for a reason!
